People often don’t believe, in their heart of hearts, that there are other potential friends or romantic partners amid the vast majority of humans they have yet to meet. In this episode, I talk about the origin of this particular cognitive bias and how to work around it.
There’s a lot that goes into successful relating to other people, both in terms of inner work and in terms of sorting. But, for our ancestors and in our past lives, there really was a scarcity issue and a need to make it work with the people you were born with rather than the modern problem of meeting and sorting though so very many humans to create your personally aligned tribe.
This can cause us to try to make it work in dynamics that are unhealthy. It can feel like a choice of being in an unhappy relationship or being alone, rather than a third choice of investing the energy that was going into the unhealthy relationship into exploring new possibilities of more sustainable human connection. Furthermore, we don’t always think in problem-solving terms about how to create chances to meet and get to know other people. Building skills for socializing and connecting successfully with other humans is an incredibly good investment of time and energy. This is far better than perfecting walking on egg-shells around someone who hasn’t addressed their childhood wounds.
Now is a time when so many old, amazing, luminous souls have incarnated at the same time in order to get in on the humanitarian work of influencing our collective destiny for the good of all concerned. So, the chance to connect with so many smart, kind, inspired, and engaged people is perhaps the greatest it’s ever been in the history of the world.
